HOMELESS MINISTRY
The ministry to the homeless was started by our church youth leaders. The Youth Workers wanted to plant a seed of ministry in the group of teenagers to help them know that they can serve God even as young people. So on the last Saturday of each month the youth group, led by Pastor Jack Shelton, comes to the church to make sandwiches and lunch bags to feed those who are less fortunate. Most of these ministry endeavors are at Fairmount Park in the downtown Riverside area, but occasionally the ministry extends to other parks and the riverbed homeless.
A little over a year ago, a man in our church felt God's prompting to go once a week to lead a short Bible study and give a hot dinner to the homeless at Fairmount Park. Anywhere from 30 to 80 homeless individuals (as well as families with children and babies) come for this time of Bible teaching, prayer and feeding every Thursday night. "Big Jim" Ward has several helpers who share the responsibility of this weekly outreach.
