Sober Living Program
PASTOR GALEN AND MEL BACON
Several years ago, Mel Bacon (owner of Coronado Stone Products) began a Sober Living Program under the umbrella of his Good News Foundation organization. The Sober Living Program was developed to assist parolees in making a new start in life, as many companies and corporations will not hire ex-offenders and parolees. This program was designed to give those individuals a "second chance" to transition back into society with motivation and dignity. It offers housing and employment to those who want to get their lives back on track by developing productive and stable lifestyles. The program also offers a Christian base in which spiritual maturity is a major emphasis for their individual growth.
The residents of the Sober Living Program attend the church worship services at The Vision Plus Church, as well as other church events. The men attend the Celebrate Recovery meetings each week to help them overcome addictions and hangups from the past. In addition, they are taught Life Skills at the time set aside to help them grow into more mature adults who are able to make wise choices in the future. Also, they are part of the Wednesday evening Bible study for adults at church. Finally, they participate in community and ministry activities during the month with such things as Homeless Feeding, lawn care, church cleanup and ministry to the membership.
Therefore, we as The Vision Plus Church have teamed up with the Good News Foundation to love and challenge the residents of the Sober Living Program to find spiritual strength and to grow as men who will be productive citizens of society. Pastor Galen and Pastor George are actively involved in the lives of the men and the Foundation. Pray that God will continue to do a mighty work through this ministry.
